Aquaculture – at least partly regulated production of aquatic organisms – shows considerable growth in every part of the world. This is especially true of fresh water fish farming, the growth of which can be attributed to the increasing demand for fish products and the limited availability of salt water fish.

Professional literature distinguishes between several different fresh water fish farming system working principles, one of which is that of intensive recirculation aquaculture system (RAS).

This concept implies fish breeding in a regulated, optimized environment where, by imitating natural development and decomposition processes taking place near the water environment, people pursue fish farming accompanied by the use of energy and fish feed inputs so that water flowing out of the units is reused subsequent to its mechanical and biological treatment. This approach facilitates the production of the maximum amount of fish per unit of water area.

In Europe, intensive recirculating fish culturing technology has been used since the 1960’s, 1970’s. In Hungary, such fish culturing farms have been established since 1980.
The experience gained over the past 30 years, along with the increasing number of fish farming sites, has contributed to a group of expertise staff emerging in our country. The members are capable of planning, implementing and operating fish farming sites not only in Hungary, but also abroad.
